Hutt City COuncil Community Cart 2023
In response to Hutt City Council’s Te Mahere Tupu Growth Plan – the hope for this cart is to use it to support accessible community talanoa about the future of Te Awa Kairangi in all its aspect.
To hear from our tamariki, the Urban Development Team at HCC partnered with local libraries to deliever workshops with rangatahi. The framework was to 'share your local stories to bring the community cart to life and inspire us to think about the future we want for our neighbourhoods, what are your favourite stories of your neighbourhood? What do you love about it? How do you want it to look and feel in the future?'
Rangatahi were encouraged to provide creative works showcasing this. Whether this be through drawings, writing, songs, poems etc.
After collecting all submissions, 6 winners were chosen and their creative works adapted to feature of the cart. I interpreted the kids mahi, and applied them to the cart, where it travelled around 3 local libraries for the kids to get involved and bring the stories to life using paint.
My role as kaiako was to allow the tamariki creativity to go crazy, I allowed them to express themselves while helping to guide colour choices/overall aesthetic.
